4Points

4Points is a short-form newsletter modeled off the learnings from my first newsletter, Reading For The Weekend. The newsletter consisted of four points to consider each week, Watch, Read, Listen, and Think. Each section focused on one topic—a video, an article, a song, and a thought—and let the reader engage in a shortened more curated experience.

Reading For the Weekend

Reading For The Weekend was my first foray into the world of newsletters. Writing based on current events requires a different set of skills that I hadn’t honed yet. Of course, keeping up with the new information is required, but it also requires the ability to connect what is current—news, memes, trends—to what is less capricious. It forces you to engage with information on a deeper, more skeptical plane. Similar to journalism, newsletters demand the writer verify, corroborate, and decipher the meaning of what is being presented. Integrity is 90% of what keeps the writers coming back each week. Learning that lesson was the most beneficial part of the whole endeavor.

The most enjoyable part, however, was the ability to curate a little piece of the world each week and deliver that information to readers. Communicating with subscribers and hearing, in nearly real-time, the way the story changed their mind or made them dig deeper on a subject that was presented in the newsletter, was far-and-away the most rewarding experience.
